Just like tattoos on the body, cosmetic tattooing on the face will eventually fade from exposure to the sun and other factors. The fading allows patients to come in and re-create their original look or choose new styles and colors based on changes in their appearance. Many patients find that the permanent makeup look and colors they choose when they were younger need an update in 2 years.

The pain during cosmetic tattooing is similar to a tattoo on the body, which varies based on the person’s pain tolerance. For patient comfort, topical anesthetics may be used, but patients will talk to their technician during their consultation about what degree of pain should be expected and what pain relief can be offered. From there, the technician will decide what can be used to help the patient before, during, or after the procedure.

Cosmetic tattooing is very safe when performed by a trained technician in an appropriate facility. Before the procedure, our treatment room will be sterilized and free from contaminants for the patient’s safety. Tattoo needles will all be new and opened in front of the patient during their procedure. While certain parts of the tattooing equipment will be cleaned and sterilized before every patient, disposable aprons, gloves, and chair covering will be changed for each patient.

To avoid ending up with permanent makeup that isn’t what the patient wanted, our technicians perform thorough consultations with the patient before performing the tattooing procedure. Patients may look through the technician’s portfolio to help them determine if the technician’s style matches what they want. To help the technician create the best results, patients should be open and honest about their concerns, goals, and expectations.
