Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Brian M. Derby was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. After graduating with his medical degree in Tampa, Dr. Derby spent six years in a highly selective plastic surgery residency, followed by two additional years of elective fellowship study under the supervision of world-renowned plastic surgeons. Completing his education in 2015, Dr. Derby decided to bring his expertise and leadership back to Florida as a partner in the practice of Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center. Since arriving in Sarasota, he has established his reputation as an extremely ethical, creative, skilled, and compassionate surgeon. His warm, inviting demeanor embodies his plastic surgical practice that always has “treat as family” at the forefront.

When I considered having cosmetic surgery (face lift, temporal brow lift, blepharoplasty) I consulted with several women who had similar procedures done by plastic surgeons in the area. Universally, they highly recommended Dr. Derby and now I can understand why. I met with Dr. Derby and the first thing that I appreciated about him, was that he listened to my concerns and what I hoped to achieve by going through cosmetic surgery. He explained in detail what he thought needed to be done, the outcome I should expect, and the limitations/risks with the procedures to be performed. After the birth of my first daughter 32 years ago I had a severe case of mastitis and my breasts were droopy and saggy. Another baby and menopause only made matters worse. I was initially nervous before my two surgeries but Dr. Derby took so much time going over each detail. His bedside manner is excellent and I felt so so comfortable and at ease with him. Dr. Derby obtained his M.D. at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. He then completed six years of comprehensive plastic surgery residency training at Southern Illinois University’s Institute for Plastic Surgery in Springfield, IL. He added two additional years of elective fellowship study focused on advanced eyelid and face/neck lifting techniques, and cosmetic breast and body surgery under the supervision of leading plastic surgical experts. The two additional fellowship-training years allow Dr. Derby’s patients to be placed in the hands of a very extensively and uniquely trained cosmetic plastic surgeon. In May 2015, he was awarded Best Research Paper of the Year by the Aesthetic Surgery Journal at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s (ASAPS) annual meeting in Montreal. His academic productivity has added thirteen published book chapters and research articles to his name. In 2017, Dr. Derby was awarded as one of America’s Most Honored Professionals. Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors has consistently recognized Dr. Derby as a “Top Doctor” in Plastic Surgery since 2020. Dr. Derby was awarded ‘Top Surgeon’ in the 2023 and 2024 Reader’s Choice Awards by the Sarasota Community in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.
