Tired of cutting yourself with razors when you’re shaving your legs? Or perhaps you no longer want to deal with pain from waxing? Finally say goodbye to unwanted hair and the nuisance of traditional hair removal methods with the help of our laser hair removal treatment at Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center. With that in mind, let’s take a look at what you can expect after your laser hair removal treatment.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove unwanted hair from the body. It works by targeting pigment in the hair. The pigment in the hair follicles absorbs the laser energy, which then destroys the hair follicle, making it unable to grow the hair for long-term hair reduction.
At Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center, we use the Cynosure Vectus laser. This unique treatment uses an intense beam of light to target specific hair follicles, damaging them without harming the surrounding skin. And with the Advanced Contact Cooling, you never have to worry about being burned or harmed.
The laser also includes the Skintel™ Melanin Reader, the only FDA-cleared melanin reader that helps tailor treatment to each and every patient’s skin type, lifestyle, and skin color.
The treatment must be done over several weeks to target hair follicles when they are in their growth phase. Treatment can be done in a variety of areas, including legs, arms, underarms, back, face, chest, and bikini area.
What to Expect During Laser Hair Removal
During your first visit, our licensed laser specialist, Kimberly Dearden, will review your medical history and examine your skin to determine if laser hair removal is right for you. If you are a good candidate, treatment can start the same day.
We’ll start by preparing the treatment area and then pass the Cynosure Vectus laser handpiece over the skin. You may feel a slight tingling and stinging sensation, but most patients tolerate it quite well. That said, we do offer numbing cream for more sensitive areas. How long treatment takes depends on the treatment area and the number of treatment areas.
Generally, patients need 6-12 treatment sessions to achieve optimal, hair-free results.
After Laser Hair Removal
Immediately after treatment, you may see some mild redness or swelling, but those side effects are usually temporary and fade after a day or so
What to Avoid
After each treatment, patients need to avoid exercise for 24 hours. Sweating can irritate the skin and increase irritation caused by the laser. You’ll also want to avoid sun exposure in between treatments, as well as waxing and plucking. You’ll also need to avoid irritants, hot water, shaving, and scratching the treatment area.
Results
You will start to see the results of laser hair removal 2-3 weeks after your first treatment session. Many of the hairs will fall out, but you will continue to see more improvements with the more treatment sessions you have.
After your treatment, you’ll notice you have smoother, hair-free skin without the need to pluck, wax, or shave. Results can last for months, years, or, in some cases, be permanent. Maintenance treatment may be necessary to keep your skin smooth and completely hair-free.
