About Microneedling with PRP

Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center is proud to offer microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment, an innovative procedure combination aimed at rejuvenating the health and complexion of the skin. Microneedling is the process by which microscopic punctures in the skin are created, triggering natural collagen production. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) sourced from the patient's own blood can then be administered to the same area to help stimulate new cells and regenerate new tissue. Together, these treatments are designed to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, large pores, and other skin conditions. As a minimally invasive skin treatment, microneedling with PRP can enhance the texture of the skin on the face, neck, or torso to reveal a smoother, more even tone without damaging the epidermis.

Microneedling with PRP Procedure Technique

Prior to the microneedling portion of treatment, a sample of the patient's blood will be drawn for PRP collection. The blood will then be transferred to our centrifuge for the separation process, during which the platelet-rich and growth factor-rich components will be isolated to generate PRP. The team at Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center utilizes modern technology to perform microneedling techniques and expertly create pinpoint openings in the skin to stimulate the production of collagen. When microneedling is complete, the PRP serum will be applied to the skin, filling the openings that have been created. The serum will be removed, and the skin will be cleansed once the PRP has completed the absorption process.

Following Treatment

It is normal to experience effects, such as bruising, swelling, and redness following microneedling with PRP treatment. To enjoy optimal results, patients should avoid wearing makeup, using exfoliating skin cleansers, and swimming in pools for about 72 hours after the procedure. Such activities could expose the skin to harsh chemicals and bacteria, resulting in negative side effects and diminishing treatment outcomes. Caution and protective measures should also be taken to avoid sun exposure when going outdoors. Most patients who undergo microneedling with PRP generally notice an improvement in complexion within the first month following the procedure as the skin works to repair and heal itself.

Microneedling With PRP FAQs

How effective?
Microneedling with PRP treatment results may not be visible right away. However, the healing factors from the PRP serum will help to stimulate the transformation into healthy, glowing skin. To enjoy ideal results, patients may need to receive several treatments initially. Subsequent treatments will then be needed to maintain skin health and appearance. An idea of realistic expectations will be provided during the initial consultation.

How many?
Many patients initially prefer to schedule treatments every few weeks. A microneedling with PRP treatment plan to restore the health and appearance of the skin will be created based on individual needs, the condition of the skin, and aesthetic concerns. Other skin treatments to exfoliate old skin and nourish new skin layers may be desired in between microneedling with PRP treatments to enhance the overall quality and complexion of the skin.

How often?
Following an initial series of treatments, a maintenance schedule of microneedling with PRP sessions 2 – 4 times a year may be recommended to generate targeted outcomes. As this varies based on skin health and personal goals, we work closely with each patient to develop a unique plan. Suggestions on how frequently maintenance sessions should be scheduled will be tailored to each individual to help keep the skin looking even, radiant, and healthy.

Microneedling with PRP or injectable wrinkle treatments?
Microneedling with PRP provides long-term outcomes while injectable wrinkle treatments deliver faster, short-term results. Microneedling with PRP may be performed alone or combined with an injectable wrinkle treatment, like BOTOX or a dermal filler, to enhance overall skin revitalization. A custom treatment plan will be created by our skilled team to help each individual reach their targeted aesthetic goals.
