Overview

Chemical peels are a safe and effective way to treat skin irregularities by removing the top layer of skin to reveal a new fresh layer and promote new skin tissue growth. These smoothing peel are performed as part of a periodic, customizable skincare program at our Sarasota Plastic Surgery MedSpa.

We offer a variety of SkinMedica Peels. There are different degrees of peels, ranging from mild to medium, that can be used depending on the patient’s cosmetic goals and their skin condition prior to treatment. Our chemical peels can improve rough texture, age spots, fine lines, pigmentation, and provide a glowing complexion. SkinMedica peels are recommended to be done in a series of 3 at 4 week intervals to achieve optimal results.

Types of Chemical Peels

Superficial/Light Peels

We offer SkinMedica Chemical Peels, suitable for all skin types.  These peels address visible signs of mild to moderate skin imperfections including the appearance of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and melasma.

Peels address many skin concerns.  Two common issues are poor cell turnover that dulls the skin and secondly, problematic skin, specifically acne. Each problem has its own solution. Our SkinMedica blended acid peels combine multiple ingredients such as alpha hydroxyl, betahydroxy, and retinoic acids can safely treat several concerns at once.  These all-inclusive peels treat mild to severe skin imperfections, smooth fine lines and wrinkles and improve texture. They are also self-neutralizing, increasing safety and tolerability on the skin.   The patient normally peels 48 hours after the procedure and shedding of the skin lasts for 3-4 days.  Patients see noticeable results after just one peel and compelling results after several peels.

Once you decide you want a chemical peel, our team will guide you in deciding which peel is best for you.

During/After the Procedure

The chemical application for a peel follows similar steps. The only difference will be the type of acid solution used, the amount applied, and the period of time that it is left on the skin.  Downtime depends on what kind of peel is done. There is no downtime for mild peels but for medium peels, patient will be in a healing process up to 7 days. After the treatment, it is important that the patient allow the peeling process to occur naturally and do not assist in peeling or pulling at the skin. It is also extremely important to avoid sun exposure for a period of time after the treatment.

Chemical Peel FAQs

How Painful?

Depending on the peel used, there may be some general discomfort. With our peels, patients will feel some stinging but it goes away quickly with the use of a handheld fan. The peeling process itself does not cause any pain.

Other Options For Me?

There are many skin treatments to consider depending on the patient’s aesthetic goals and skin condition. Chemical peels promote new skin regeneration and is best to treat skin irregularities. For facial conditions in which wrinkles are significant, a BOTOX or injectable filler may be a better option. There are also a number of laser treatments to consider as well.
