Rhinoplasty, often called nose surgery or a “nose job”, is a plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the appearance of the nose. There are many reasons patients seek rhinoplasty at Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center, including drooping of the tip, a large nasal hump, birth deformities, previous trauma, skin cancer, or dissatisfaction with its natural shape or size. Our Sarasota plastic surgeons have the focused training and experience necessary to give you attractive yet natural looking results. The procedure is often performed to correct a breathing condition that may be caused by a deviated septum, however the majority of cases are aesthetic by nature. In some cases, complete nasal reconstruction may be necessary if severe trauma occurred. During rhinoplasty, the overall goal is to change the shape of the nose to an aesthetically appealing shape and size, so that a beautiful, natural outcome can be attained.

"A BEAUTIFUL experience! I have had multiple services at Sarasota Plastic Surgery, and I couldn't be happier. Having worked in a medical office before, I am overly impressed by the staff, scheduling system, and how much everyone CARES. The facility is state-of-the-art with the newest technology, and staff is SO friendly and knowledgeable. I have had a consultation with Dr. Derby for my rhinoplasty later this year. He was so friendly and thorough with helping me understand the procedure and visualizing my new look. I enjoyed the consultation so much, I can't wait to have this work done by him. I also see Bridgette for Botox, and Juvederm regularly. I just love her so much - I am glad I can go in for touch-ups every few weeks partly just to see her - and because she does a phenomenal job with fine-tuning my look! all smiles here :)"- R.M. / Google / Oct 11, 2017
"Rhinoplasty - This is my second surgical experience with Dr. Mobley and his practice. I received the same excellent care I had previously experienced with Dr. Mobley this time around. I was so happy with my results for my face lift in 2014 that I came back for my rhinoplasty on March 9. The results are exactly what I wanted. I also had a mini facelift that turned out very good. The care was excellent from start to finish, pain minimal, and I can go back to my life quickly. I am sure that I will be back in the future for further care. Everyone did their job well, they were all pleasant and very helpful. I am just so happy with the results!I think the single best thing besides the results are the staff working for Dr. Mobley and Dr. Mobley himself. Everyone is so pleasant and professional. That really does count for a lot. I like the fact that the surgery is carried out at the same facility and I go home at the end of the day."- Anonymous / RealPatientRatings / Jul 30, 2017

There are several techniques used for rhinoplasty. The approach taken will be based on the complexity of the surgical case and the overall goal of the patient.
With an open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made on the tissue between the nostrils or on the natural crease of the nose just above the lips. This allows for greater access and view of the confines of the nose. Surgeons prefer this as it is easier to manipulate the bones and cartilage. The skin is peeled back to reveal the internal structure of the nose and redraped once reshaping is completed. The scars associated with this approach are tiny - less than 5mm - so they are not easily noticeable once fully healed.
During a closed rhinoplasty surgery, incisions are made to the inside of the nose through the nostrils. This is a common technique for patients who desire mild reshaping. This approach does not cause visible scarring. For severe reshaping cases, the open technique will be implemented.
For minor reshaping, some patients may opt to try an injectable filler to achieve results. These come in a variety of liquid substances, and sometimes a fat transfer can also be utilized. A filler can help add volume to hide small deformities, such as a bump or a bony appearance. It is important to note that fillers can only do so much in the reshaping process. For most patients, surgery is a better option and will offer a permanent solution.
Rhinoplasty is performed in a surgical facility under general anesthesia. The procedure lasts up to 2 hours and is considered outpatient. After surgery, there will be swelling and soreness around the nose area. Bruising is also a side effect of surgery. The nose will be placed in a splint for additional support. During the first 7-10 days following surgery, the side effects will begin to disappear and the splint will be removed. Patients will be able to see their results immediately; however, it may take several months for the full results to appear.

Is It Risky?
All surgical procedures carry some form of risk. These risks can be greatly minimized if an experienced nose surgeon is chosen to perform the surgery. While rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures in the U.S., surgeon skill is critical so that a beautiful, satisfactory outcome can result.
Around half of all rhinoplasty cases will include some form of nose breaking in order to allow the surgeon to reshape the cartilage and bone. This is primarily intended for patients who have nasal asymmetry. The broken bone or cartilage will be reshaped and reattached, and then supported by splints during recovery.
Surgical Or Nonsurgical?
This depends on the patient’s nose structure and what aesthetic result is trying to be achieved. For significant reshaping, the surgical approach will be performed as this allows the surgeon to manipulate the cartridges and bones. If the patient is looking for a subtle improvement, adding volume to the area may suffice.
