MOHS Closure on cheek

Procedure Details

76-year-old patient was referred to Sarasota Plastic Surgery by a local dermatologist for the closure of a cheek defect. Our plastic surgeons are often called on to close open wounds after skin cancer surgery in prominent places such as the cheeks, nose and eyes to reduce the potential for scarring or disfigurement. The area where the cancer was removed was repaired to give the best cosmetic and functional outcome, reducing the appearance of an unsightly scar. The defect diameter was 3cm located on the patient's anterolateral right cheek following Mohs excision of a melanoma-in-situ. Undermining with primary closure, within a relaxed skin tension line, was performed. Scar is healing nicely at 6 weeks.
