James H. Schmidt, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Schmidt is well known for his attention to detail and his caring, thorough consultations. He is also known for his artistic, natural surgical results. The Sarasota physicians have voted him a "Top Doctor" for "Plastic Surgery" in Castle Connolly's America's Top Doctors in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008. He instills a sense of kindness, comfort and confidence in his patients.
Dr. Schmidt is certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College Surgeons (FACS). After receiving his BS degree from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin and his M.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Dr. Schmidt moved to Florida in 1982. He subsequently completed his internship, General Surgery residency, and Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Schmidt then received additional fellowship training in cleft lip, cleft palate, and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the Humana Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Schmidt is on the medical staff at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, HCA Doctors Hospital, the Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center, Health South Surgery Center, Cape Surgery Center and HCA Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Same day Surgery Center. He also holds an academic appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Schmidt's practice is limited to cosmetic plastic surgery with an emphasis on facial rejuvenation, breast surgery, and body contouring. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society For Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the Sarasota County Medical Society. He is also a member of the University of Florida Edward R. Woodward Surgical Society.
Dr. Schmidt moved to Sarasota in the summer of 1989. He and his wife, Wanda, enjoy the Florida outdoors while boating, fishing, and strolling on the beach. Dr. Schmidt also enjoys fly-tying, fly-fishing,and carpentry.
